What are the differences between linear guides and linear axes?

Linear axis is a commonly used mechanical component that guides linear motion. Common types of axes include crankshaft, straight axis, and flexible axis. It is used in conjunction with cylindrical shafts for infinite travel. Due to the point contact between the bearing ball and the shaft, the load is small. The steel ball rotates with minimal frictional resistance, allowing for high-precision smooth motion. Linear axis is widely used in precision equipment such as electronic devices, tensile testing machines, and digital 3D coordinate measurement equipment, as well as sliding components of industrial machinery such as multi axis machine tools, punches, tool grinders, automatic gas cutting machines, printers, card sorting machines, and food packaging machines.

1. It has the same function as a linear guide rail, both serving as support and movement. The difference between the two lies in the installation position, and the shape is also different. The optical axis is circular, and the linear guide rail is generally square with a fixed installation slider on it. A straight optical axis is usually fixed at both ends, with a suspended connecting component in the middle covering all or most of the radial direction of the optical axis. A linear guide rail is usually fixed with bolts, with one side tightly attached to the equipment installation base.

2. Linear axis is used in conjunction with linear bearings and cylindrical shafts. Due to the contact between the bearing ball and the outer sleeve of the bearing, the steel ball rolls with minimal frictional resistance. Therefore, the linear optical axis has low friction and is relatively stable, not changing with the speed of the bearing, and can achieve high sensitivity and accuracy in smooth linear motion.

3. Linear guides have higher accuracy, greater load, and stronger stability than linear bearings.

4. Linear shaft consumption also has its limitations, mainly due to the poor impact load capacity and bearing capacity of linear bearings; Another challenge facing the industry is the high vibration and noise of linear shafts during high-speed motion.
