Performance characteristics of linear guide rails

1) High positioning accuracy. The motion along the linear guide rail is achieved through steel ball rolling, with small frictional resistance between the guide rail pair and small difference in dynamic and static frictional resistance, making it less prone to crawling at low speeds. High precision in repeated positioning, suitable for frequent starting or reversing of moving parts. The positioning accuracy of the machine tool can be set to the ultra micron level. At the same time, according to the needs, increase the preload appropriately to ensure that the steel ball does not slide, achieve smooth movement, and reduce the impact and vibration of the movement.




2) Low wear and tear. For fluid lubrication of sliding guide surfaces, the motion accuracy error caused by the fluctuation of the oil film cannot be avoided. In the vast majority of cases, fluid lubrication is limited to the boundary region, and direct friction caused by metal contact cannot be avoided. In this type of friction, a large amount of energy is wasted due to frictional losses. On the contrary, rolling contact reduces friction energy consumption and correspondingly reduces friction loss on the rolling surface, which can keep the rolling linear guide system in a high-precision state for a long time. Meanwhile, due to the limited use of lubricating oil, it has become very easy to design and maintain the lubrication system of machine tools.

3) Adapt to high-speed movement and significantly reduce driving power. Machine tools that use rolling linear guides have low friction resistance, which can miniaturize the required power source and power transmission mechanism, greatly reduce the driving torque, and reduce the power required by the machine tool by 80%, resulting in significant energy-saving effects. It can achieve high-speed movement of machine tools and improve their work efficiency by 20-30%.




4) Strong load-bearing capacity. The rolling linear guide rail pair has good load-bearing performance and can withstand forces and torque loads in different directions, such as up, down, left, right, as well as bumping torque, shaking torque, and swinging torque. Therefore, it has good load adaptability. Applying appropriate preloading in design and manufacturing can increase damping, improve vibration resistance, and eliminate high-frequency vibration phenomena. However, the sliding guide rail can withstand relatively small lateral loads in the direction of parallel contact surfaces, which can easily lead to poor operating accuracy of the machine tool.




5) Easy to assemble and interchangeable. Traditional sliding guides require scraping and grinding of the guide surface, which is both laborious and time-consuming, and once the accuracy of the machine tool is poor, it must be drilled again. The rolling guide rail has interchangeability, and as long as the slider or guide rail or the entire rolling guide rail pair is replaced, the machine tool can regain high accuracy.




As mentioned earlier, the relative motion of the ball between the guide rail and the slider is rolling, which can reduce friction loss. The rolling friction coefficient is usually about 2% of the sliding friction coefficient, so the transmission mechanism using rolling guide rails is far superior to traditional sliding guide rails.
